Aston Cantlow

The main village of Aston Cantlow consists of a single street and it lies 5 miles north-west of Stratford, and 2 miles north-east of Wilmcote. The parish stretches across the valley of the Alne, and the Alne Hills rise to over 400ft round the hamlet of Shelfield.

To the east the parish touches Bearley, Snitterfield and Pathlow which was the home of Mary Arden, Shakespeare's mother. Paper making and sewing needle scouring were two major trades in the village, however the village is now mainly agricultural. The church of St John the Baptist is early English style. It is believed that Shakespeare's parents were married here in 1557.
