Welford-on Avon is a picturesque village set in the heart of Warwickshire, 4 miles downstream from Stratford-upon-Avon. It lies on the Avon river which meanders around it in a large loop. There is an attractive mixture of timber and thatch, stone and brick buildings. The distinctive maypole has been on the village green since Shakespeare's time. A walk up Cress Hill provides panoramic views of the river and surrounding countryside.

The oldest listings of landmarks include the first Church built on the site of St Peter'e during the 12th century, the Southern portion of Binton Bridges and the Maypole site - 14th century.
