Compton Wynyates is a grade I listed country house constructed of red brick and built around a central courtyard. This example of Tudor architecture had half timbers added after the Civil War, to replace damaged parts of the building. Today the house is set amidst topiary gardens and green lawns.
The Compton family appear on records as being resident in the private house since 1204. The family lived in the manor house until 1481 when Sir Edmund Compton decided to build a new family home.
